How to choose the correct Titleist driver for you

Titleist is a respected name within the sport, the Titleist Pro V1 even being the most commonly used golf ball amongst professional golfers! Titleist drivers are known for being a forgiving, efficient, and hit constantly long. The D2, TSi2, TSi3 and TSi4 will be some key names you may know. Unsure about which Titleist clubs will be suited for you? Get in touch or give us a call on 0330 128 9899 and our team of golf experts will be able to help recommend the perfect club for you.

There are a few things to consider when picking the right second hand driver. Length, loft, adjustability, flex, swing weight & grip all need considering to optimise your yardage off the tee and find as many fairways as possible. Here’s our guide to help you with your decision:

Length:

The standard length for a Titleist driver will be 45.5”.

For the vast majority of golfers this size will be ok, but if you are exceptionally tall or small you may find this does not sit comfortably with you. Having a driver cut down is relatively straightforward and most pro-shops will be able to do this for you if required.

Loft:

Most Titleist drivers come with a loft setting of 9”, 10.5” or 12” degrees, and can be adjusted to either -1 or +2. 10.5” lofted heads will suit the vast majority of golfers. In our experience, this is right for most people and lots of modern clubs have a loft adjustable sleeve so you can tweak the driver a few degrees either way if you start hitting the ball too high or low.

However, knowing if you hit the ball particularly high or low may mean a 12” or 9” lofted head is best for you respectively.

Flex:

In many people’s eyes the most important factor when buying a golf club is getting the right shaft. This means the correct flex and weight. Starting with flex, it’s important to match up with your individual swing speed to make sure you deliver the club face back to the ball at the correct time, creating that little bit of extra ‘whip’ will only help you hit it further.

The general rule of thumb is that swing speeds under 75mph will suit Senior (often called A-flex) & Ladies flex shafts. Over 75mph and up to 90mph will be best fitted to regular. Over 90mph suits stiff flex and over 110mph would be X-stiff flex.

Aswell as shaft flex the actual weight of the shaft can also be a big factor when maximising consistency and distance. Understanding if you prefer a light shaft, that you feel you can swing really hard or a heavier shaft, where you can feel the head position during the swing is a very personal feeling but, in our experience, can make a big difference to results. We have a variety of different shaft flexs within our used Titleist driver stock to suit your specific needs!

Grip:

Probably the least important factor, due to the ease and relative expense of changing, is the type of grip. We have however, seen significant improvements in distance and accuracy by changing a standard grip to midsize or jumbo and vice versa depending on the individual golfer’s preference and hand size. Whilst this would not be a sole reason for buying a driver if two similar drivers had one particular grip that suited you it could help decide.
